With a splash of brilliance, the varsity boys and girls swim teams made waves and shattered records throughout their season. Both teams achieved remarkable success in the CIF meets, solidifying their status as top contenders in their respective divisions.
The boys team had an exceptional season, finishing with 72-point lead and the title of Prep League Champions for the third consecutive year. The team placed 12th in the Division II championship, and several Panthers put up remarkable times. Junior Michael Munder set a new school record in the 200m free relay, clocking a time of 1:28.1. Senior and captain Nathan Tu claimed victory in the 200 IM, achieving a time of 2:02.26. Sophomore Justin Lee soared to first place in the 100 fly with a swift time of 54.12, while junior Patrick Seo showcased his prowess in the 100 breaststroke, finishing in first place with a time of 1:03.61. Munder surfaced as the Mt. Sac meet champion in both the 100m and 50m free, setting another school record in the latter with an impressive time of 20.70.
The girls team finished third in the Prep League and placed 8th in the CIF Division III championship. Sophomore Julia Pisano etched her name in the school record books, breaking the 100-free record with an impressive time of 52.52. The girls 200 free relay team also demonstrated their skill by securing a fourth place finish in the CIF Division III finals. Freshman Mikayla Chan showcased her talent as a finalist in the 100 fly event with a time of 1:02.95.
When asked about the factors contributing to the teams’ stellar season, junior Jesse Benitez explained, “Our success depended on a variety of factors. First and foremost, we had good swimmers willing to work hard and complement each other’s strengths. Second, we created an environment that pushed people to go faster while always keeping things fun and lighthearted. Third, we had knowledgeable coaches that pushed each of us to be better, which is why we all peaked at the end of the season.”
As the season draws to a close, the swim teams can proudly reflect on their accomplishments. Their unwavering commitment, remarkable talent and supportive team environment have undoubtedly left an indelible mark on the school’s swimming program. Although five seniors will be leaving the boys and girls varsity swim program, next season’s prospects look bright as the Panthers look to continue their dominance in the water.
