Poly is gearing up for an exciting season with the recent appointment of Jason Mitchell as the Associate Athletic Director for Communications. Mitchell, who recently served as the Assistant Athletic Director and Associate Head Basketball Coach at Saint Joseph High School in Lakewood, brings a combination of experience, passion and vision to his newly created position at Poly.
At Saint Joseph High School, Mitchell orchestrated game-changing transformations, both on and off the court. On the court, his coaching helped the basketball program make a triumphant return to the playoffs for the first time in five years. Simultaneously, he oversaw and led the construction of a state-of-the-art weight room at the school.
Before he became a coach, Mitchell developed his game playing basketball at Benicia High School in Northern California, earning second-team all-league honors and serving as team captain. At the University of San Francisco, he spent four years as a practice player for the women’s basketball program and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Exercise and Sport Science. Mitchell then earned a Master of Sport Management degree from Southern New Hampshire University.
Speaking about Mitchell’s hiring, Scott Bello, Poly’s Director of Athletics, said “His background in coaching, strength and conditioning and branding, as well as his boundless energy and enthusiasm, will bring an added dimension to our administrative team.”
So far, Mitchell has loved his experience at Poly. “In my short time I have enjoyed working with the student athletes and coaching staff. My favorite moment in my brief time at Poly was the all school assembly. It was fun to see the entire school together,” he said.
