Senior Siena Jurgensen has been a creative force throughout her time at Poly. Whether in performing arts or visual arts, she brings a unique perspective and passion to her craft.
Jurgensen’s lifelong love for art began at a young age. Even as a preschooler, her favorite activity was crafts. She began dancing recreationally when she was four and started taking dance classes at Poly in the 5th grade. In middle school, Jurgensen started competing and continued until she was 16. Although she no longer has time to dance outside of school with a busy schedule, Jurgensen has continued to take dance classes at Poly.
Jurgensen is one of the leaders in Poly’s dance department. She has taken the Dance IV elective since freshman year and notes how dancing and choreographing pieces for the winter dance concert have been highlights during her time at Poly.
Jurgensen notes she finds her main inspiration from other artists. She shares, “When I design or choreograph, I love to scroll endlessly on Pinterest or social media because I get so motivated to create.”
Fellow dancer and junior Ashley Kim recalls meeting Jurgensen during her first dance show when she taught Kim how to do her stage makeup. Since then, they have become close, often working together performing duets. Kim said, “She is my biggest cheerleader, and I am so glad to have met such an amazing, encouraging person like her. I am so sad to see her go, but I am going to try my best to be the leader and role model that she was to me.”
Jurgenson’s artistic talents are not just limited to the stage. Now in her senior year, Jurgensen is taking AP Art. In class, she enjoys exploring different mediums such as drawing, painting and collage.
As a lifer, Jurgensen remarks how Poly has shaped her love for the arts. She reflects, “From my early start in visual art with Mrs. Mars to now learning from Mr. B, I have always had great teachers who kept my love of art going. I have known Ms. Pigneri since I took her Poly Summer dance class in 1st grade, and in addition to helping me become a better dancer, she has been an adult on campus that I can always depend on.”
When asked about her creative plans for the future, Jurgensen shares she plans to study Architecture or Interior Design in college. But, regardless of where she ends up, Jurgensen knows she wants to have dance in her life.
