If you are anything like me, finding the perfect Halloween costume has been on your mind for months. October 31st is approaching fast — so for those who are just as indecisive as I am, I present this extensive list of the best solo, duo, and group costumes for the 2024 Halloween season.
Beginning with solo costume recommendations, the first thing that comes to mind for this season is the wildly viral cheetah print. I expect to see many renditions of these costumes, with detailed face makeup and full cheetah-printed attire. I’ve also seen many great deer makeup looks. To make this a duo costume, the other member could be a hunter. If you prefer to opt for a more colorful palette, bugs such as butterflies or ladybugs are another option, as long as you remember wings and antennas. The final animal on this list is a white rabbit, which could be done in a variety of ways: as just a simple solo costume, paired with a magician or as part of group costume. In a group, add other characters from “Alice and Wonderland”: Cheshire Cat, Queen of Hearts, Mad Hatter and Alice. Moving away from cute animals and toward horror costumes, a great scary character is Pennywise from “It.” Not only could you run Pennywise solo, but you could also use this idea as a duo costume and add Georgie.
Solo costumes are usually quick to put together, but duo costumes require more planning. I am ready to see couples rocking Perry the Platypus and Dr. Doofenshmirtz from “Phineas and Ferb.” You might think that Phineas and Ferb would be a more logical choice from this franchise, but frankly, we all know Perry and Dr. Doofenshmirtz is the better combo. Another classic duo is the firefighter and their Dalmatian dog. I will forever be jealous of the couples that dress up as Jim and Pam’s Halloween costumes from “The Office:” Jim as a 3-hole-punch and Pam as a black cat. For a more nostalgic costume, turn everything upside down and dress as Curious George and The Man in the Yellow Hat. Or, for an uncannily similar-looking pair, “The Shining” twins would be perfect and very scary. I also haven’t seen the duo from Subway Surfers enough; Tricky and Jake are super easy to pull off because all you need is a whole lot of baggy clothes. Last but definitely not least, a mermaid and a sailor are easy to put together and have the potential to be very stylish.
To finish my list of recommendations, I present group costumes. First, the movie “Toy Story” is full of various characters, all with unique costumes. From Buzz Lightyear to Woody to Mr. Potatohead, these costumes would fit together as a big group but also work individually. The characters from “Star Wars” are another classic for a larger group. Take your pick of any of the characters from all of the storylines: Darth Vader, Princess Leia, Yoda, Chewbacca, Rey, Kylo Ren, C3-PO, R2D2… the list goes on. Goldilocks and Three Bears from the classic fairytale is a great costume for a group of four. Lastly, “Avatar: The Way of Water” characters would be difficult but extremely cool to recreate. Just know you’ll need a whole lot of blue face paint.
Whether you use one of my suggestions or not, I hope to see many creative and cute Halloween costumes this year.
