As cold weather approaches, fall fashion trends resurface. Influenced by online fashionistas, Poly students gravitate towards a few key pieces in their autumn outfits. Here is a list of noticeable — and stylish — trends the Poly student body begins to wear as the season shifts to fall.
First are sweaters, a staple as the temperature drops and students lean into cozier options. Students will pull on any classic, chunky sweater, whether from Brandy Melville, Garage or Urban Outfitters, and they tend to follow the color palette of neutrals or darker colors.
To protect themselves from the cold, students will also shift from off-the-shoulder T-shirts to warmer off-the-shoulder tops. These tops tend to be cropped or fitted with long sleeves for warmth. First invented in 1947, leopard print has been a trendy style for many fashion eras. Recently, leopard print has returned, whether on Sambas, pants or tops. I first noticed the print on social media before it started to appear at Poly.
Transitioning to lower body wear, flared jeans continue to remain popular during autumn as do anything baggy. In recent years, low-rise jeans have usurped the power of their high-rise predecessors. For fall, washes of jeans become darker to mirror fall’s moodier tones.
In regards to footwear, Uggs are one of the defining brands of the fall aesthetic. While Ugg sells a variety of footwear, their slippers and platforms have garnered the most attention. Dr. Martens is another popular shoe brand that always appears in the fall, especially on Pinterest. Most commonly seen in loafer or boot form, Dr. Martens resurface every autumn. Finally, some popular summer shoes seem to be lingering for the fall season; Birkenstocks and clogs harbor a neutral fall look.
Jewelry takes center stage in accessories. Many looks involve layered jewelry, including multiples of one piece. This applies to necklaces, rings, bracelets, which commonly appear in sets, as do earrings for multiple piercings. Gold jewelry seems to be the most popular for all skin tones. Hair accessories have also appeared in fall fashion, the most common being neutral-colored bows. People also often wear warm fuzzy socks to complement their Uggs.
Finally, long nail extensions are now out of style; natural, shorter nails have replaced them. Color-wise, darker tones replace summer’s pastels. The most common color Poly students wear is red wine, perfect to match the fall leaves and cloudy weather developing. Additionally, leopard print reappears on nails, often in French tip style, so as not to overpower the look. This print pairs well with brown tones. People have also begun adding fall designs to their nail art, like pumpkins, stars and ghosts.
Fall is an incredibly stylish season of fashion. Trends that match the mood and color of autumn should be expected to take outfits by storm.
