Friday, May 24, 2024 marked the final Vocal Night for eight departing seniors. Vocal Night, a performance by the Upper School Vocal Ensemble, featured two ensemble songs, eight duets and fifteen solos ranging across grade levels, some even including Middle School students and faculty. At Vocal Night, performers across the student community showcased different musical styles, including country and jazz.
Due to the multitude of songs, preparation entailed an extremely busy couple of weeks leading up to Vocal Night, with teachers and students squeezing in rehearsals before school and after school and during lunch and free periods. Sophomore Anastasia Arrieta, who performed “Dreamer” by Laufey shared, “To prepare for this event, I thought through a bunch of songs I felt were out of my comfort zone but I’d still be capable of doing. I met with our incredible Mr. Lifland often, running through the solo and messing around with it until it felt right.”
Each of the seniors performed a special song during the 2024 Vocal Night. Middle and Upper School Performing Arts teacher and Vocal Ensemble Director Eric Lifland said, “This was a fantastic senior class with eight strong singers. They all brought not only excellent voices but also a lot of heart and positive energy to our group. It is hard to imagine Vocal Ensemble without them, but I am so proud of each of them for delivering what I believe were their best performances yet in their final Vocal Night.”
