The reliably strong Poly girls tennis team has continued to dominate their opponents this fall, having maintained an impressive margin of victory of 7.2 points. With a record of 5-2, this group of dedicated athletes has showcased remarkable talent, determination and teamwork throughout the season.
Poly’s girls tennis team has truly been a dominating force. Their winning record and most recent 15-3 victory against Alhambra High School reflects not only their skill and technique but also their resilience and determination. Each player has demonstrated an incredible commitment to their sport, spending countless hours perfecting their serves, honing their forehands and backhands, and improving their overall play.
Senior and team captain Juliet Lord stated, “We have a lot of new freshmen who have learned to play so well together. I’ve also seen the sophomores and juniors keep getting better. Besides actual tennis skills, our team has improved by growing so much closer as a community that supports each player throughout every practice and match.”
One of the standout qualities of this team is their strong chemistry and camaraderie. The players support and uplift each other, both on and off the court. Their strong connection goes beyond the game and helps them play well together and learn from their mistakes.
Junior Dylan Lam commented, “I think this season our team has been able to keep its spirits high through losses and frustration because of the support we give each other. We’ve bonded as a team quickly this year, and I feel that there is a real sense of comfort among teammates.”
Throughout the season, the team has faced fierce competitors, showcasing their competitive spirit and strength in the intense game that took place on Aug. 30 against Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy. Despite Poly’s best efforts, the crucial league match initially resulted in a 9-9 score, which brought on a tie-breaker. When the pressure was at its peak, Poly was able to emerge victorious. This points to the team’s poise and levelheadedness on the tennis court.
The ability to remain composed under pressure and adapt to different playing styles has been a key factor in their success. As younger players continue to develop and the team’s chemistry grows, expect Poly’s girls tennis team to continue its successes in the future.
